John-Luke Shelley with his band High Speed Steel has been thrilling their audiences for over 4 years. Hailing from Geelong and in great demand, they regularly perform around Victoria, particularly in Melbourne and Geelong Regions, and at local and interstate Blues and music festivals. At 24 years of age, JL (as John-Luke is known) is an absolutely awe inspiring guitarist. He has been described as having a "great feel for the work of Jimmy Hendrix, Carlos Santana and Stevie Ray Vaughan", but his has his own unique style leaving audiences spellbound. With his band, JL regularly receives great applause for his performances of both the blues classics and his own original material. Through sample songs & videos, and our photo gallery, High Speed Steel demonstrate some of their diverse performance styles - from festivals, private functions, pubs, clubs and hotels to lazy Summer Sunday gigs. High Speed Steel Band members include:
The combination of talented youth, substantial experience and musical craftsmanship makes the band both original and stunning in it's 'Modern Blues' style sound. JL is very proud to have recorded his first all-originals CD. Self-titled with 12 tracks recorded at Mike Brady's Studio (JL had the pleasure of meeting Mike when he participated in the 2009 Variety Bash and was the winner of their talent contest), the CD includes JL's own tribute piece to Stevie Ray. Fellow High Speed Steel members Mick and Jared support on the CD, with very special guests Chris Wilson and Mike Elrington featuring on a track apiece. This CD follows the very successful 'I Could Be Your Man' CD launched in 2009. A new fantastic CD 'John-Luke Shelley & High Speed Steel Live @ The Pulse' has been released and is available via the website store. Recorded live at the wonderful Geelong Community Radio Station 94.7 The Pulse and digitally mixed by Daniel McCrohan, this CD shows the amazing talent of J-L and High Speed Steel. Recorded on a severe stormy night earlier this year, the CD features both J-L's own material and some well known Blues tracks and is a demonstration of how tight and professional the band is. Thanks to Jared Shay
However, we are extremely delighted to welcome to High Speed Steel our wonderful and very talented new drummer Johnny Tesoriero who brings a wealth of experience with him – check his profile! Johnny will be making his debut with the band at the fantastic 2011 Echuca Winter Blues Festival, welcome aboard Johnny. |

We would like to extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to Jared Shay who after four successful years with John-Luke Shelley & High Speed Steel has decided to pursue his career interests and also travel overseas. Jared has been an integral part of John-Luke Shelley & High Speed Steel and he has made a huge contribution to the band since it's humble beginnings and while Jared will be sorely missed, he will still be appearing occasionally when commitments permit.
